How to Write and Publish Your Book on Amazon

A Four-Hour Live, Hands-On Beginner Workshop in Dallas

Saturday, August 29, 2026
10:00 AM–2:00 PM
Polk-Wisdom Branch Library — Dallas, Texas
Presented by Amina Hilton and Her Garden Co.™

Have you been thinking about publishing a book on Amazon but feel overwhelmed by all the steps?

Maybe you have an idea but don’t know how to organize it. Maybe you’ve started writing but don’t understand Canva, book formatting, Amazon KDP, pricing, royalties, or how the upload process works.

This live, in-person workshop will walk you through the complete beginner process of creating and publishing a book through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing.

You won’t spend four hours listening to a long lecture. You’ll follow along, complete the steps, ask questions, and work on an actual book project from beginning to end.

What You’ll Learn

During the workshop, you’ll learn how to:

  • Understand how Amazon KDP works

  • Set up your KDP publishing account correctly

  • Understand the difference between your legal identity and your public author name

  • Review banking information, tax information, identity verification, royalty payments, and account requirements

  • Use ChatGPT or another AI tool to develop and organize a book idea

  • Identify your reader, purpose, title, and subtitle

  • Create a simple book outline and content

  • Choose the correct book size before designing

  • Use Canva to create and format book pages

  • Understand trim size, margins, gutters, bleed, and print-ready PDF files

  • Create a book interior and cover

  • Walk through the Amazon KDP upload screens

  • Use the KDP Print Previewer to check your book

  • Understand list price, printing costs, and estimated royalties

  • Upload and submit a book to Amazon KDP for review

  • Repeat the same process later with your own book ideas

The Hands-On Class Project

To make the workshop realistic and manageable for beginners, everyone will create a simple guided journal as the hands-on practice project.

The guided journal is not the main focus of the class. It is the project we’ll use to teach the complete publishing process.

You’ll experience the entire workflow:

Idea → AI → Canva → Interior → Cover → KDP Upload → Pricing → Submission

By using one simple project, you can learn each step without becoming overwhelmed by a large manuscript.

Students whose KDP accounts are properly set up and ready will be able to upload and submit their practice project to Amazon KDP during the workshop. Amazon will still complete its own review and approval process before the book can become available for sale.

What You’ll Leave With

You’ll leave the workshop with more than general information.

You’ll leave understanding how a book moves from an idea to a completed project that can be submitted to Amazon.

Once you understand the process, you can use it again for many different kinds of books, including:

  • Memoirs

  • Devotionals

  • Workbooks

  • Children’s books

  • Cookbooks

  • Educational books

  • Novels

  • Personal-development books

  • Journals and planners

We are using one simple book project to teach you a process you can repeat with many different kinds of books.

What This Workshop Does Not Include

Your personal novel, memoir, devotional, workbook, or large manuscript will not be edited, repaired, completely formatted, or uploaded during this four-hour group class.

Those larger projects require more individual attention and time than a group workshop allows.

After the class, you’ll have the basic knowledge needed to begin applying the process to your own book. Students who need private help with a personal manuscript, book formatting, cover design, or KDP upload may book a separate private session with Amina.

Who This Workshop Is For

This class is designed for beginners.

You don’t have to be a professional writer, graphic designer, computer expert, or publishing specialist. You just need a willingness to learn, follow the steps, and work on the hands-on project.

The workshop is especially helpful for people who:

  • Have always wanted to publish a book

  • Have an idea but don’t know where to begin

  • Feel intimidated by Amazon KDP

  • Want to understand Canva book formatting

  • Need help using AI responsibly to develop ideas and content

  • Want clear, practical instruction without complicated publishing language

  • Learn better by doing the work instead of only watching videos

You don’t have to know everything before you arrive. That is the reason for the class.
